God dammit! I love this rp so much already!! Alrighty, I just wanted to clear this up. ( Even though no one asked ^.^ ) Period 5 ( Right after lunch ) Is gym for all the students. The school has 6 gym teachers and everyone in the school takes gym together. ( There is a gym uniform too! ) Since there are 6 gym teachers, the school is split into 6 groups, 3 boy groups and 3 girls groups. It's outside on nice days, and inside on crappy days. All of the girl characters in this rp, ( Except for the counselor ) will be in girls group 1 together. All of the boy characters in this rp will be in boys group 1 together. ( Along with some NPC's of course ) And the groups are all in separate parts of the field. The girls and boys in the same group do the same activity just not really together.

Gannett reports higher 3Q earnings, revenue

MCLEAN, Va. (AP) ? Gannett Co. reported higher net income and revenue on Monday, helped by strong gains in political and Olympics-related advertising.

The media company said it earned $133.1 million, or 56 cents per share in the July-September period, up 33 percent from $99.8 million, or 41 cents per share, a year earlier.

Revenue grew 3 percent to $1.31 billion from $1.27 billion.

Analysts, on average, were expecting earnings of 53 cents per share, on revenue of $1.29 billion, according to a poll by FactSet.

Gannett, based in McLean, Virginia, owns USA Today and 81 other newspapers, 23 television stations and several digital businesses.

The company's newspaper publishing revenue dropped 3 percent to $890.2 million from $917.8 million. Gannett attributed the decline to "soft advertising demand" resulting from the slow economic recovery. Advertising revenue at the newspapers fell nearly 7 percent to $552.7 million from $591.7 million.

The company, however, saw its first increase in newspaper circulation revenue since 2007, helped by digital subscription growth.

Revenue in Gannett's broadcasting unit grew 36 percent to $237 million from $174.3 million last year, thanks to what Gannett called "substantial" ad spending during the Summer Olympics. Political spending was "slightly higher" than a year ago, the company said.

Gannett's stock slid 17 cents to $17.73 in midday trading on Monday. It has climbed $2.66, or nearly 18 percent in the last six months.

Obama witch doctor display to stay, creator vows

The calendar is flipping toward two big late-fall events: Halloween and the presidential election.

A business owner has married the two in his New Jersey storefront. His anti-Obama, Halloween-themed window displays the president as a witch doctor.

Expression of free speech? Maybe. But also a bad business decision, apparently.

The voodoo storefront has evoked outrage in the beachfront community of Spring Lake, N.J. But Bill Skuby, 66, owner of the local men's store, Skuby & Co. Lifestyle Clothing, insists that the display is not political. ... "It's personal."

The store's window display depicts an image of Obama's head superimposed in the body of a witch doctor that rests atop the word "Obamacare." The witch doctor image is placed under a tombstone epithet that reads, "I Told You I Was Sick," accompanied by a photo of the president in a doctor's coat and stethoscope.

Get more pure politics at ABCNews.com/Politics and a lighter take on the news at OTUSNews.com.

On the tombstone stands an Obama bobble-head doll sporting a long-sleeved tee that reads, "Hoax," and underneath that is a zombie mannequin rising from the dead wearing a hat that says "F.Y.B.O.," an acronym apparently for an expletive phrase denouncing the president.

"This whole thing started as a statement from an individual voicing his opinion," Skuby told ABC News during a phone conversation that was briefly interrupted when someone from the street came in to give him a piece of their mind. "Now it has brought total negativity to Spring Lake."

The display has generated both outrage and support, ABC News' New York City station WABC reported.

"Our children and grandchildren can walk by, and I think this represents the worst that America can display in campaigning," said Spring Lake resident Suzanne Herrmann.

But Ray Miller told WABC's Jen Maxfield, "Good for [Skuby]. Someone has to stand up for our country."

The Halloween-themed display debuted Oct. 4. Skuby said that he did a similar one last year "and no one said a word. But this is an election year and now, suddenly, everyone wants to be involved."

The store owner said he has received a wave of threats from all over the country aimed at him and his six children, including death threats that he has reported to the police.

"This is America, isn't it?" Skuby asked. "Aren't we able to say and do pretty much what we want to do?"

Skuby, who admitted that his business has suffered because of his visual expression, said the community is trying to run him out of town. He said people have made him out to be a racist because of his anti-Obama display.

"If you want to call me a racist then go ahead. I can assure you I am not a racist; I just really want to see Obama go." Skuby said. "This is a good example of where race relations are under this guy's administration. ... This has absolutely nothing to do with race."

Skuby said that if Mitt Romney had the same plan as the president; his picture would be in the window.

Skuby said he isn't taking the display down until after the holiday.

"My window is my voice and I get one shot to have my voice be heard." he said. "I don't regret putting up the display. At some point, you have to take a stand and that is what I am doing. I want Obama out."

Film Reviews Blog: 'Here Comes The Boom' Or Does It? ? CBS ...

After seeing the trailer, you can probably guess exactly what?s going to happen in ?Here Comes The Boom.?

However, it?s the likable personae of the cast that really draws you into the film and allows you to enjoy it, and that is one of the main reasons the film works.

Uninspired high school biology teacher Scott Voss (Kevin James) doesn?t care for much but the hot school nurse Bella Flores (Salma Hayek). That is until he finds inspiration and becomes a mixed martial arts fighter to help raise money to save the school?s music program and the job of loveable teacher Marty Streb (Henry Winkler).

The film is farfetched and doesn?t throw any surprising punches. Nevertheless, it is entertaining and reminiscent of the Adam Sandler formula of filmmaking, idiotic humor, an out of his league love interest, personal growth, and an overall inspiring message, which sometimes comes in those end-of-movie speeches made famous in 80s films.

Although some of the jokes reach for the lowest common factor, i.e. immigrants with accent jokes, it?s the chemistry of the cast that make the jokes work.

Winkler is hilarious as the dimwitted music teacher, and no matter how hard he tries, can?t help but screw up in one form or another. Although he is no Arthur Fonzarelli this time, he maintains his charm and is nothing short of lovable.

Adding to the humor is Voss? trainer Niko (Bas Rutten). The former MMA fighter (both in character and real life) is a big teddy bear, cute and fun despite his brutish exterior.

It?s easy to be cynical about this cheesy film and simply pass it off as another dumb comedy, but it?s hard to deny the fantastic chemistry of the cast, and the charm of the characters.

Sometimes, you just need a film that will make you laugh, no matter how farfetched the premise; and with that, Boom is a knockout.

My Pretty Baby Cried She Was a Bird: Photo Friday: Diamond Jim's ...

Good morning!

Doing my regular Doris and Ray rounds, I ran across these four photos from a Las Vegas gambling establishment called "Diamond Jim's Nevada Club", taken in the wild, as Doris and Ray vacationed with Ruth and her husband Robert. That's a lot of R's for one group, but there you go. I love on-the-spot professional photography like this because there's no time to go "Ugh, why was I wincing like that? Do I always look like that? Take one more where I look human", because you don't get to see the finished product until you pass the photo-man's kiosk and claim your souvenir. Which is probably why these photos look so weird and solemn! There would definitely be retakes if any of this was digital.

Doris actually fairs the best out of the lot:

At first, being used to touch screen casino machines, I thought she was actually gambling when this picture was taken, but as you see the arm lever to the right, turns out she's just placing her hand on the wheel for some weird reason as the picture was snapped. I like her crazy-paisley blouse and her hair and the expression like "Whaaa...?" Even better than that though, check out the wood paneling in the gambling room and the chips attendant in the background, who probably doesn't even realize she's?inadvertently?in many people's souvenir scrapbook of their trip to Vegas.

Now, look at Robert:

Does he not look like he's waiting for you to say ONE MORE thing so he can clock you? I think it's the buttoned-up-to-there polo combined with the Clint Eastwood hair cut and sunglasses indoors, but he looks tough as nails! Also, notice that the blonde in back of him, next to the big wheel, looks like she is not wearing a shirt. I think the sepia tone drowns out a lot of background detail and she is, probably, in all fairness clothed, but it made me do a double take!

Did he cheer up any later? Nope.

Here Ruth joins him, holding a cigarette in two fingers and waiting to strike it big at the one-armed-bandit in front of her. A kindly, W.C. Fields type looks over her shoulder. I was so surprised Ray didn't get his picture taken! I looked and looked through the rest of the album for his moment in the impromptu spotlight, but was disappointed when none was to be found. Ah, well. Here's Ruth by herself, again, looking just solemn. Are you guys not taking advantage of the free drinks? Let's get this party started already!

The Nevada Club is actually one of the oldest licensced clubs on the strip, opening in 1932.?The club was only known as "Diamond Jim's" from 1962-1969, and it closed in 1969, so these photos are from somewhere in that time frame. You can see more postcards/chips/memorabilia from the casino here.?If you're jealous of my photos, you can buy one of your own on ebay! Look, these are all available right now:

Have you ever taken home one of these souvenir photos of yourself or do you have any in the family scrapbook? Are subjects?required?to be so weirdly stoic in these kinds of pictures?

Four more hours and I'm outta work and off to the races...more like estate sales...on this gloomy Friday afternoon. Have a great weekend, and I'll see you on the other side!

HBT: 'Oriole magic' comes up short in Game 5

Nobody gave the Orioles much of a chance in the one-game Wild Card playoff against the Rangers last Friday, so it?s not surprising that they entered the ALDS as the underdogs against the big bad Yankees. However, this series followed a very similar path to how their regular season played out. They surprised, they overachieved, they made the Yankees sweat. But ultimately, they fell a little short.

The Orioles lost to the Yankees 3-1 this evening in a decisive Game 5 at Yankee Stadium. They just couldn?t get much going against CC Sabathia, collecting just four hits while striking out eight times. They had their best chance in the eighth inning, but failed to capitalize on a bases-loaded situation.

Save for a rough ninth inning by closer Jim Johnson in Game 1, the pitching wasn?t the problem for the Orioles in this series. They allowed three runs or less in four out of the five games. None of their starting pitchers allowed more than two runs. But their bats didn?t show up. Aside from Nate McLouth, that is. It?s tough to win when you hit .187 as a team. To name some prominent examples, Adam Jones went 2-for-23 (.087) while Matt Wieters went 3-for-20 (.150) and Mark Reynolds went 3-for-19 (.158). One wonders how this series might have played out had Nick Markakis been healthy.

While the Orioles fell a little short in this series, it doesn?t diminish what they accomplished this season. Buck Showalter?s group managed to breathe life back into a fan base at a time where many long-suffering fans in the Baltimore/D.C. area were tempted to switch their allegiance to the Nationals. It?s unlikely that the Orioles will be able to repeat their historic success in one-run and extra-inning games next season, so if they are going to win again, they will probably need a new formula. But the franchise is alive and relevant again. And that?s a good thing for baseball.

Comparing the LG Optimus G for AT&T and Sprint

Android Central

While MobileCON 2012 won't be known for any major announcements or shakeups, it did give at least one company a spotlight to shine on its upcoming flagship powerhouse. LG , on hand for the final night here in San Diego, continued its marketing push with a blowout to celebrate its upcoming Optimus G, the superphone we've seen both in South Korea and in New York. Official for both AT&T and Sprint, we're now getting a closer look at the device that LG is banking on to put them back in the game.

We got our hands on both models at a launch party last night, and while both carry the Optimus G moniker, you'll notice in the photos as well as the video some very distinct differences-- take note: this is not a Samsung release.

Aide: Israel's ex-PM Olmert considering comeback

JERUSALEM (AP) ? An aide to former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert says he is considering running for office to challenge incumbent Benjamin Netanyahu.

With early elections set to take place in a number of months, Olmert is considered the candidate with the best chance of replacing Netanyahu. Olmert was recently cleared of the most serious of the bribery allegations that forced him out of office in 2009. He is still bogged down in a separate bribery trial that leaves his political future in doubt.

Still, his former Cabinet secretary and confidante Yisrael Maimon told Israel's Army Radio Wednesday that "he is pondering it and the political system is putting a lot of pressure on him."

Olmert was deeply unpopular while in office, but he has recently enjoyed renewed popularity and support.

Chronic kidney disease alters intestinal microbial flora

ScienceDaily (Oct. 9, 2012) ? Chronic kidney disease changes the composition of intestinal bacterial microbes that normally play a crucial role in staving off disease-causing pathogens and maintaining micronutrient balance, according to UC Irvine researchers.

This profound alteration of the gut microbial population may contribute to the production of uremic toxins, systemic and local inflammation, and nutritional abnormalities present in patients with advanced renal disease, they said.

Study leader Dr. N.D. Vaziri of the UCI School of Medicine's Division of Nephrology & Hypertension noted that consumption of high-fiber foods and better control of uremia -- a disease common in kidney failure -- by diet and dialysis may improve the composition of gut microbes and the well-being of patients.

The researchers studied microbial DNA extracted from the stool samples of a group of renal failure patients and healthy control individuals. They found marked differences in the abundance of some 190 types of bacteria in the gut microbiome of those with kidney disease -- and confirmed the results in a concurrent study of rats with and without chronic kidney disease.

Vaziri explained that nitrogen-rich waste products -- particularly urea and uric acid, which are usually excreted by the kidneys -- accumulate in the body fluids of patients with renal failure. This leads to the massive release of these waste products in the gastrointestinal tract, supporting the growth and dominance of microbial species that can utilize these compounds.

The impact of this flooding of the gut by nitrogenous waste products in patients with advanced kidney disease, Vaziri added, is compounded by dietary restrictions on fruits and vegetables, which contain the indigestible fibers that favorable gut microbes feed on. This is because fruits and vegetables contain large amounts of potassium, a mineral normally excreted by the kidneys. In cases of renal failure, potassium levels are high, increasing the risk of cardiac arrest.

One solution, Vaziri said, is to provide longer, more frequent dialysis treatments. This would let more potassium be removed by dialysis and allow for more potassium in the diet. Alternatively, packaged fiber foods that do not contain potassium could be used as a dietary supplement.

Dr. Madeleine Pahl, Dr. Jun Yuan and Dr. Zhenmin Ni of UCI; Jakk Wong, Yvette Piceno, Tien-Hung Nguyen and Gary Andersen of Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory; and Todd DeSantis of San Bruno-based Second Genome participated in the study, which appears online in Kidney International.

The work adds to a growing body of evidence pointing to the role of gut bacteria in disease and health. Recent research by other groups has identified changes in the composition of intestinal microbial flora in people with diabetes, colorectal cancer, obesity and inflammatory bowel disease, among other conditions.

Boeing to Build 702HP Communications Satellite for SES

  • Lighter satellite allows for maximum payload capacity
  • The 11th spacecraft ordered by European satellite operator will cover Asia

Boeing [NYSE: BA] has been selected by SES S.A. [Euronext Paris and Luxembourg Stock Exchange: SESG] to provide a new satellite that will expand direct-to-home broadcasting and other communications services to the fast-growing markets of Northeast Asia, South Asia and Indonesia, as well as maritime communications for vessels in the Indian Ocean. SES-9 -- ordered through SES' affiliate company SES Satellite Leasing Ltd. -- will be a Ku-band 702 High Power (HP) satellite.

Boeing has a 25-year relationship with Luxembourg-based SES. This is the 11th spacecraft that SES has ordered from Boeing and the contract includes an option for another. Financial details are not being disclosed.

SES-9 will be built in Boeing?s El Segundo Satellite Development Center and is designed to operate for 15 years in geosynchronous orbit with a 12.7-kilowatt payload and 57 high-power Ku-band transponders, equivalent to 81 36-MHz transponders.

"We look forward to working again with Boeing on an important addition to our global fleet," said Romain Bausch, president and CEO of SES. "SES-9 will greatly expand our transmission capacity over Asia, while adding increased flexibility and redundancy to a strategic orbital slot. SES is convinced that Boeing's 702HP will prove to be mission-critical in order to provide state-of-the-art, high-power satellite capacity to the thriving markets of Asia."

"We are pleased to be selected by SES to build a highly flexible 702HP satellite, which has a uniquely configured xenon ion propulsion system and chemical bi-propellant system, reducing the spacecraft's launch weight while allowing for maximum payload capacity," said Craig Cooning, CEO of Boeing Satellite Systems International and vice president and general manager of Boeing Space & Intelligence Systems. "Boeing has continuously evolved the 702 design since it was introduced over 15 years ago, allowing us to provide SES a satellite that will be consistent with their business requirements."

The spacecraft will be positioned at 108.2 degrees east longitude and provide incremental as well as replacement capacity to this well-established SES slot over Asia. SES-9 will be colocated with SES? existing SES-7 and NSS-11 satellites.

Escape to one of these memorable hotel suites

23 hrs.

No matter the destination, and no matter the reason for being there, the allure of a hotel suite knows no bounds. A suite is a hotel?s first-class seat, often the most desired room and the epitome of hospitality done right. Be it palatial or cozy, high-design or low-key, it offers a place to eat, sleep, dress, entertain, observe or just plain lounge. The overall effect can be irresistible.

Slideshow: See the memorable hotel suites

Many hotels have taken their suite offerings to (literally) new heights. London?s Corinthia Hotel, for instance, houses the 5,000-square-foot Royal Penthouse, which contains its own spa-treatment pod and a striking spiral staircase (among other luxe touches) and is the largest two-bedroom hotel residence in that city.

The chic Arts Suite at the design-driven Hotel Arts Barcelona offers guests special extras, such as helicopter transport to lunch at one of Spain?s Michelin-starred restaurants, or electric Smart cars to drive around town.

While size is often a major selling point, it isn?t the only measure of success. Taking cues from the outside environment can turn an already spectacular setting into something extraordinary. The Girijaala Suite at Amangiri in Canyon Point, Utah, takes full advantage of its superb desert locale,?incorporating natural elements into its design and maximizing views of the Entrada Sandstone mesas.

And in Marrakech, the Atlas Deluxe Suite at Selman is perched on 15 acres of parkland and offers unprecedented views of the Atlas Mountains, as well as the hotel?s 16 Arabian horses.

Award-winning actress Vivien Leigh once said, ?I need something truly beautiful to look at in hotel rooms.? These suites have beautiful views of all kinds covered, but they also create an experience that conforms to every need, making for a truly unforgettable stay.
